The presentation will be done mostly with a PowerPoint presentation. Maryse has taken pictures of every step of making a fabric sculpture- beginning with the armature to the draping of the sculpture. The product is messy and it takes several hours to create a sculpture. She will have several pieces at different stages of construction, including a selection of completed sculptures.

She will bring a container of paverpol and demonstrate with a tiny face on a canvas to show how this product can be incorporated with acrylic paint to create great mixed media. Maryse will also show the process of draping the fabric on a sculpture by doing a few parts of the body.

3. Raylene Mulrooney at Luna Sole Bistro

Introducing, Raylene Mulrooney and her first solo show at the Luna Sole Bistro. Her interest in photograph began in September of 1981 when she attended the Graphic and Visual Design Program at Kwantlen College in Surrey, BC. Since then it has become her passion. She says that, “her photos are her way of paying it forward”.

For Raylene, Petrie Island is a magical place that she frequently visits. You are likely to find her there early in the morning, “enjoying the world as it wakes up”. She enjoys “the constant changes, the peacefulness and the renewal of the spirit that happens there”.

The collection that she has put together for the Luna Sole show, are winter scenes that capture those magical moments she has enjoyed at Petrie Island. The show will be there until May 9th.

4. Members’ Announcements

Jessie Parker announces her upcoming solo show at Galérie Old Chelsea, 783 Rte 105, Chelsea ,QC , March 31-April 19. The vernissage will be held on Sunday, April 2, 1-4pm. You are most welcome to attend. Hope to see you there…

In case you have not been there before: Go north on Rte 5, take Tenaka exit, East on Chemin Scott, turn right on Rte 105, first building on your right. Les Fougères, famous for great French cuisine, is on the first floor. The gallery is up the stairs .

The show consists of photo based digital art printed on aluminum, canvas, archival paper and photo-transfer on wood. The imagery is what she now calls “lightscapes” , composed entirely of light, and based on cityscapes of Ottawa, Toronto, and New York City. They are images that are derived from what the camera can see but the eye cannot. Most of the show features works not seen before in this area and most of those brand new.

2. Summer Mix show at St Laurent Complex

3. Christine Blais at Luna Sole May 11 To June 21

THE EYES HAVE IT

On display at the Luna Sole restaurant for May and June is Christine Blais, a multidisciplinary artist, with an MA in Film Studies from Carleton University. She has presented works in encaustic that are based on photographs of heads, especially the eyes of the subjects.

She says that her background in photography and her affinity for sketching have played fundamental roles in shaping her vision with the encaustic medium. “The images in these works aim to demonstrate the self as deconstructed and fragmented by technology. By using digital photography, I accentuate the role of technology in the breakdown that occurs when our focus is placed on observing other people’s lives through social media instead of experiencing our current reality.”

4. Members Announcements

Jessie Parker has three shows this spring/summer:

6. Communiqué

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).

Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;

When someone shows an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be advised to contact you directly to make the transaction.  We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each exhibition.  If you must remove your work prior to the next change-over, please notify the appropriate coordinator, so the Librarian can be advised and take note of the authorized removal.  Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to ensure their security.  Remember that these are very public areas that put your work and name before the public.  Do your part to encourage people to visit the North Gloucester, Orleans, St. Laurent Complex, and Blackburn Hamlet Libraries, where Arteast members exhibit on a continuing basis.

- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;
