Reminder for Arteast Juried Award Exhibition (AJAE) Submissions


The deadline of September 1, 2019 is approaching for registration for the 38th Annual Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition (AJAE) which will be held at the St Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street, Ottawa K1K 0Z8 from Sunday September 15th, 2019, through Wednesday, November 13th, 2019.

The "Rules of the Exhibition"  and the link to the "Registration Form" are available by clicking on these links and are also at www.arteastottawa.com . Please note that there have been some changes from last year:

  • Registration is online only from Thursday, August 1st, 2019 thru Sunday, September 1st, 2019. Contact Istvan Jobst at 613-601-9107 should you require assistance. 
  • Artists will receive an electronic acknowledgement upon receipt of their application.

This exhibition is always a great success due to the number of participating artists and the quality of the artwork. Let’s have an even greater show this year.

La date limite du 1er septembre 2019 approche pour l'inscription à la 38ième exposition d'Arteast avec jury et remise de prix (EAJRP) qui aura lieu au Complexe Saint-Laurent, 525, rue Côté, Ottawa K1K 0Z8 du dimanche 15 septembre 2019 au mercredi 13 novembre 2019.

Les “Règles de l'exposition” et le lien vers le “formulaire d'inscription” (lien) sont disponibles en cliquant sur ces liens et sont également à www.arteastottawa.com. Veuillez noter qu'il y a eu quelques changements avec l'année dernière :


  • L'inscription n'est en ligne qu'à partir du jeudi 1er août 2019 jusqu'au dimanche 1er septembre 2019. Communiquez avec Istvan Jobst au 613-601-9107 si vous avez besoin d'aide. 
  • Les artistes recevront un accusé de réception électronique dès réception de leur demande.

Cette exposition est toujours un grand succès en raison du nombre d'artistes participants et de la qualité de l'œuvre. Faisons un spectacle encore plus grand cette année.

2. Orleans Library Exhibition


Orleans Library Exhibition Changeover - Reminder: September 3, 2019

It's time to change the exhibition of members' artworks at the Orleans Library Branch, 1705 Orleans Blvd., Orleans, Ontario.

On Tuesday, September 3, 2019, please retrieve the works that are currently hanging and/or bring in new paintings (or other two-dimensional art). Artworks need to be D-ringed/wired (not single ply wire).

These new pieces will be hung until November 5, 2019.

The changeover at the Orleans Library branch is between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

It is an ideal opportunity especially for new Arteast members to exhibit their work.



3. Open Studio



Open Studio meets on September 12, and on 26th.
At the St. Laurent Complex, Visual Arts Studio.
Time: 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Basics of Shading in Graphite

Discover the true magic of pencils in this single day, 5 hour workshop, which is designed to introduce you to the tools used by pencil artists who work in a realistic style. Learn everything you need to know about the various tools required to work in graphite, how the different pencil grades behave and how to wield them to achieve particular results. Besides gaining an understanding about all the various tools that help create the magic, you will also learn the real secret behind achieving those beautifully smooth blended tones that so many artists struggle to perfect.



Sky Techniques in Graphite

Time: 10 am til 3 pm
Fee: $65
Prerequisite: Basics of Shading in Graphite, as it teaches many of the basics and foundations upon which this workshop builds.
Note: Space is limited – ONLY 8 spots available! This class won’t be offered again until 2020!

This single day, 5 hour workshop is designed to introduce you to some of the techniques used by pencil artists to create specific types of effects to portray realistic skies and clouds in your landscape drawings. Once learned, these techniques and effects may be used to realistically portray any number of moods in your landscapes, such as bright and sunny or dull and grey or dramatic and ominous.

Arteast member, Danielle Beaulieu will be offering watercolour classes at Da
Artisti Gallery & Studio. The weekly 2-hour classes will begin Thursday September 12th and run for 4 consecutive weeks between 1pm and 3pm in the Da Artisti studio in Cumberland.

These classes are designed for beginners using easy to follow instruction and will cover some of the key things you need to know about watercolour painting, including: 

  • The characteristics of watercolour painting
  • The equipment needed for starting watercolor painting
  • The importance of values
  • How to mix your watercolour paints
  • How to apply watercolour washes
  • The basic composition of good painting
By the end of each class, participants will have learned a key watercolour component and practiced it by producing a small painting. If you have always wanted to learn a simple approach to watercolour then this is the course for you.

Hope you can drop in to the Good Eats Cafe at 473 Albert St. to see Mary Ann Varley’s latest show City ‘scape. The show will be up for the month of August. The cafe is open for breakfast and lunch Monday to Friday and brunch on Sundays.
