An Exciting presentation by Maureen O’Neill

In English

The Zen of Pop: Andy Warhol Meets Joseph Campbell
Maureen O'Neill is an artist with an international reputation. Her work is found in collections throughout the British Isles, Ireland and Europe; across Canada and the United States; in Central and South America; and in Africa, Australia and New Zealand as well. Two pieces from her Alice in Wonderland series are currently to be seen at a Canadian Embassy in Europe, along with two landscapes. She will be teaching painting in St. Pierre and Miquelon this fall, and working on a series in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, this winter.
The genre of Neo-Fabulism refers to telling stories and telling lies. My paintings do both, drawing from nature to create illusion. Which aspires to truth.

Arteast Digest on Blogspot - Communiqué - Members Announcements - 2015 Open Call/Appel Aux Artistes Nuit Blanche - AOE Announcements

1. Arteast Digest on Blogspot

Arteast is modernizing its email communications to its members. Over the course of the next 4 weeks, you must register here at http://arteastottawa.blogspot.ca to continue receiving announcements that are sent to you at least once a week. Some messages may contain commercial content, e.g. notices of workshops and art shows.

Please see the regular email digest for the attachment with the instructions.

2. Communiqué

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).
Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;

3. Luna Sole Restaurant

Marie Leger's Encaustic Images at Luna Sole
When:  March 31- May 5, 2015

A fresh exhibition of paintings has been mounted at Luna Sole Restaurant.

Marie Leger is showing a series of encaustic paintings that reflect her discovery of this medium and have become her favoured method of painting. The process is melted beeswax painted on a wooden surface then fused using a torch or heat gun.

Says Marie “I manipulate the wax through scraping, re-melting, drawing, painting and embedding found objects. This combination of painting and dimensional layering of wax and objects leads to rich textures and a luminous depth.” Luna Sole is located in the mall at Youville Drive and Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard

4a. “The Illusion of Reality” a Solo Exhibition by Margaret Chwialkowska.

When: April 18 – July 12, 2015 -- Opening: 30 April, 5:30pm
Location: OAG Annex Ottawa City HallVernissage on Thursday , April 30 at 5.30 at the OAG Annex at the City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West

Painting from lasting impressions rather than from photographs, Margaret Chwialkowska endeavours to capture the strong emotional impact that nature has on her. Inspired by the Ottawa-Gatineau landscape, she works mainly with a palette knife in the alla prima style, using bold colours and textures that allow for an indication of movement and the passage of time. In The Illusion of Reality, Chwialkowska explores the idea of reflection. The pools of reflection cast back unfolding manifestations: not only of the landscape, marked through the change of seasons, but also of the psyche of the artist which is coloured by the present. Both an illusion of reality and a mirror, the emphasis on reflection allows Chwialkowska to consider the long lasting effect that nature has had on her, contemplating not only her work, but her life as well.

Margaret Chwialkowska is an award-winning, Ottawa-based artist. Born and educated in Poland, Chwialkowska moved to Canada in 1979. She is a loyal supporter of Ottawa Riverkeeper, an organization dedicated to protect, promote, and improve the health and future of the Ottawa River.
