St-Laurent Library, in conjunction with Arteast, is proud to present an exhibition of paintings by Perth artist Judy Hollinger. This solo show is titled Back and Forth and runs from September 29 to January 5, 2018.

In her art practice, Judy is drawn to the exploration of opposites - light versus dark, warm versus cool, complementary versus similar colours, defined lines versus lost edges. She works between order and chaos, abstraction and realism. Her current collection, Back and Forth, reflects this. Close ups of flowers and plants allow her to use realism in the foreground with elements of abstraction in the background. Judy works primarily in acrylics.

This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support artists in their local community as well as the St-Laurent Library.

She takes the images of today’s social and natural landscape and her personal experiences, the good, the bad, and even the ugly and shuffles the pieces together to create a visually appealing image using a wide range of colours, singularly unique and precious because we understand that the slightest shift can quickly change the picture. Kerstin sees art as a ”means to relax, have fun, grow and connect with others through the process of creating”. She believes that “everyone can express themselves through art”. Acting on this belief, Kerstin offers courses, workshops and paint parties, working with both adults and children.

On the other hand, composition pulls the eye of the viewer across the painting, taking in individual elements to finally focus on the main feature or focus of the painting.

6. Communiqué

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).
Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;

How to Create A Social Media Strategy (for Small Business Entrepreneurs)
The statistics are staggering. With over half of the world’s population now active on social media, it isn’t just a passing fad. Increasingly, it’s become the principal way we share our ideas, our goals, and our expertise.
In these 2-hour introductory training courses, Helena Guzmán will teach participants the foundational skills, and demonstrate how to integrate these skills to create a social media strategy using hands-on implementation via Facebook, Twitter or LinkedIn. Open to all skill levels.
Please note: Based on demand, the workshops have been re-configured according to topic and the length reduced to a 2-hour session. You may choose an online session or customize a session of your topic and location of choice.

Registration is now open: http://helenaguzman.com/socialmediastrategies/
PROMO SPECIAL: Arteast members are eligible to receive $25 off their registration; use promo code ARTEAST.

2. Make Arteast work for you my working for Arteast

Arteast is run solely by volunteers, members like you who contribute a little of their time to ensure that the organization can provide its many programs and run its exhibition venues. Without the help of its members in volunteer roles, Arteast would not be the dynamic organization it is. Don't forget that, by volunteering, you are not simply working for other members, you are working for yourself and making Arteast work for you. Make Arteast work for you by becoming a volunteer.

NEED FOR VOLUNTEER - VICE PRESIDENT

Arteast needs a member to step forward to take on the role of Vice President in January 2016. You can make an important contribution to your organization and help shape Arteast's future by joining the Executive in this capacity.

The key purpose of the VP is to support the President and assist that person with their duties. It is not essential to have professional experience as an executive or a manager but you should have organizational skills, good judgement and common sense....attributes that we all develop from life's experiences. You have what it takes and your organization needs you for VP.

If you are interested in helping in these capacities, please contact me at
president@arteastottawa.com or 613-830-1829.

President

- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";

- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;
