Arteast Summer Field Trip to Montreal; Arteast Member Wins City Award

1. Arteast Summer Field Trip to Montreal

Itinerary - Friday, June 15, 2018
8:15 a.m. Leave the Shenkman Art Centre  by air-conditioned bus
10:30 a.m. Arrival at Montreal Museum of Fine Arts
11:00 a.m. Self guided tour with audio guides
12:00 p.m., Lunch or brown bag at the gallery  (your cost)

Free time to roam the galleries
2:00 p.m. Depart museum
2:30 p.m. Arrival at Old Montreal for plein air,  (painting, sketching, photography, etc)
Optional supper or brown bag at local venues (your cost)
6:00 p.m. Departure for Ottawa
8:00 - 9:00 p.m. Arrival at the Shenkman Centre, depending on traffic and stop for a break.

Price: $50/member $60/non-member
Included in the price is bus transportation, entrance fees and tour guides.
We need at least 32 people for the trip to be viable.

2. Arteast Member Wins City Award

Congratulations to Arteast member and Past President Mary Ann Varley who was presented the Mayor’s City Builder Award
The award reads in part:  “In recognition of outstanding community service and civic dedication to improving the quality of life of the citizens of Ottawa.
Through your extraordinary volunteer efforts you have distinguished yourself as an exemplary City builder who has made an important contribution to building our community…”

Arteast is grateful to have Mary Ann as a member, volunteer and driving force behind many of our projects. She is a most deserving recipient of this acknowledgement.

1. Grow with Art Speaker Series

Title: Watercolours... A magic carpet ride

Speaker: Elvi Edwards

Elvi Edwards will explain how she uses her photos to execute her paintings. She will take a few examples and discuss in detail how they were conceived.

Abstract realism...using illusion to create reality. It is always a journey.. That magic carpet ride. This presentation will be an open forum addressing all that Elvi has learned in the past thirty or so years painting and teaching her watercolours.

Open Studio days are the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.

Thanks to Lindy Nadarajah, who spearheaded Arteast's participation in the Canadian Tulip Festival, a number of Arteast members contributed in various manner to the different tulip theme exhibitions and demonstrations.

Project Management for NPOs


Volunteer Ottawa is partnering with the organization NPO PM Training.org to offer high-quality, immediately applicable, Project Management skills via a one-day workshop on Project Management specifically for NPOs. This will be followed by one-on-one Coaching by experienced and certified Project Managers, who can consult on your project for up to 20 hours over 3-4 months (longer by special arrangement).

Volunteer Ottawa is collaborating with Heather Badenoch of Village PR to bring you this timely and important workshop which will help you learn how to handle a media request and how to ace a media interview.

Excel 101

Everybody needs to use numbers to do analysis. Whether you are tracking volunteer hours, counting donor dollars, or planning spending for the month, you need to keep track of numbers and use them to plan for the future. Excel can be used to conduct planning, manage budgets, create charts, analyze usage data, and keep records. This workshop is for you if you want to get beyond the very basics, to learn how to use excel to do your calculations, make charts, organize data, and track progress against goals. Bring your laptop to this interactive session.

Artist oil-based paint markers come in a variety of vibrant hues. The lightly-pigmented paint dries to a glossy and lightfast finish. Ideal for use on smooth and non-porous surfaces, these markers dry quickly and the paint can be reactivated, even after several weeks, to obtain gradiants and shades.

“Summer Medley 2018”
Exhibition dates- June 14 to August 21

Coming up in June 2018 is the next unjuried Promenade Arteast exhibition.
One artwork per member may be submitted.
(One piece up to a width of 38 inches x 72 inches tall including frame or one three dimensional work:- size limit-12” x 12” x 36” h)


Members who wish to participate are requested to fill out an application form

There is no theme for this show.

Please be advised, if you cannot attend the vernissage on June 17th please let us know and we will slot you into a later show that you can attend the vernissage for.

Drop off day for selected artwork is the day before the exhibition starts 10am – 11am

Exhibitors must bring the completed, signed form with their work on changeover day.

Entrants must be members or will become members of Arteast.
There is a $5 hanging fee.

Hello fellow artists,

We need your help!

Arteast is organizing a Community Outreach project and we need your help for this event to be a success. We chose St Brother Andre Catholic School, because of its special needs.

When: Tuesday May 15th, 2018.
Who: Junior kindergarten kids to the 6th grade.
Where: The school is located at 1923 Elmridge Dr. in Ottawa.

Activity proposed: The day long “Art Festival” Theme will include seven stations: printing, acrylic mural painting, watercolor paintings and painting their Buddy Bench.

If you want to make a difference in a child’s life using our passion for art participate in this wonderful activity. Arteast will provide all materials, all you need to do is come with your smile and passion toshare your talent as an artist. We will need volunteers in each of the stations; you can participants for half or all day.

C’est une activité pour des enfants anglophone, de la maternelle à la 6e année. Arteast offrira aux élèves, des activités artistiques pour la journée, comprenant : aquarelle, créations de murale en acrylique , signets avec des gravures et peintre « Buddy Bench ».
