Call for Art

The Arteast Team at the François Dupuis Recreation Centre would like to issue a call for art for the next 3 exhibits as described below. This exhibit space can only accommodate 4 artists at a time, showing 4 to 5 pieces depending on the artworks' size

The François Dupuis Centre is an inviting and fitting space for Arteast members to display their works. Each artist will have a maximum of 10 feet of wall space to display two-dimensional pieces of art for sale. Items must be dry and ready to hang. The exhibit space is designed to accept works in a single horizontal line. *Clusters of paintings in vertical groupings cannot be accommodated.*

The centre is also very accessible. It is open seven days a week, specifically from 6:45 am to 9:45 pm, Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 7:30 pm Saturday and 7:45 am to 6 pm Sunday.

1. “Fall Splendor” September 20^th to November 16th, 2015

2. “Winter’s Beginning” November 16th, 2015 to January 18th, 2016

3. "Winter Wonderland" January 18th to March 21st, 2016

Please email francoisdupuis@arteastottawa.com no later than August 28^th, 2015 for "Fall Splendor", and October15th, 2015 for“Winter’s Beginning” ” and December 20, 2015 for "Winter Wonderland". Changeovers take place in the evening, beginning at 6:30 pm. Artwork from the current show is to be picked up from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and new artwork is to be hung at 7 pm. ARTWORK BEING PICKED UP MUST BE SIGNED OUT WITH SOMEONE FROM THE FRANÇOIS DUPUIS TEAM: That would be either Doreen, Mark or Marie.

Artists are responsible for all handling and hanging of their artwork. A small step stool is available for use or you may provide your own. An exhibit fee of $20 per artist applies. Please refer to Arteast’s website for forms and regulations. Artwork without proper hanging hardware will, unfortunately, not be accepted. Please refer to rule #4 for more details.

25th Anniversary Picnic - Arteast Volunteers Needed - Communiqué - Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition / Exposition d'art par jury pour prix - Members Announcements

1. Arteast’s 25th Anniversary Picnic

August 22nd from 10am to 2pm Arteast will hold our very first Family and Friends Picnic at Petrie Island, situated at picnic area 4. Just bring your lunches/snacks, come with your kids, grandchildren, spouse and let’s celebrate our 25th. We will have activities for the kids. Also members can have fun, maybe can do some Plein air painting.

Picnic area: The picnic area is located to the west of the main beach area. It contains a number of mature trees that provide welcome shade. There is also a beach suitable for small children.

Parking: Parking costs $2 for 5 hours.

Petrie Island has some restriction : Users of the picnic area are reminded: 9 pm curfew, no dogs on the island, no alcohol, clean up afterwards, don’t feed those cute looking animals, don’t catch the frogs or turtles, don’t pick the nice flowers. If you want to cook food, bring your own gas barbeque — no charcoal please because there is no place to safely dispose of the coals.

ATTENTION: Wild Parsnip:

As you may know, wild parsnip is present in the Ottawa area. Should you encounter this plant on Petrie Island, be sure not to touch it as the sap can cause serious skin reactions when exposed to the sun and can cause eye irritation. You can find more information about wild parsnip, including pictures that will help you identify the plant, on the What's New page of the City of Ottawa's Web site at ottawa.ca.

La prochaine activité sera le pique-nique familial qui aura lieu à l'île Petrie, samedi le 22 août de 10h à 14h. Venez partager cette belle journée avec vos collègues, vos enfants, vos petit enfants, votre époux/se. Veuillez bien apporter votre diner.

Nous aurons des activités artistiques pour les petits, et peut-être les plus grands pourront faire de la peinture plein air.

La zone de pique-nique est située à l'ouest de la zone de la plage principale. Elle contient un certain nombre d'arbres matures qui offrent de l’ombre. Il y a aussi une plage pour les petits enfants.

Stationnement : Le coût est de $2.00 pour 5 hrs.

Les restrictions à l’île Pétrie : Les utilisateurs de la zone de pique-nique n'ont pas le droit de faire des feux, d'apporter leurs chiens ou d'apporter de l'alcool. S.V.P. bien ramasser et nettoyer après l'activité, ne nourrissez pas les mignons animaux, n'attrapez pas les grenouilles ou les tortues et ne ramassez pas les belles fleurs. Si vous voulez faire cuire de la nourriture, apportez votre propre barbecue à gaz - pas de charbon s'il vous plaît, car il n'y a aucun endroit où le jeter en sécurité.

Comme vous le savez, le panais sauvage est présent dans la région d’Ottawa. Si vous observez cette plante à l’Ile-Pétrie, ne pas y toucher parce que la sève peut causer de sérieuses réactions sur la peau et de l’irritation aux yeux si vous vous exposez au soleil. 2. Arteast Volunteers Needed

ARTEAST NEEDS YOU

Arteast is run solely by volunteers, members like you who contribute a little of their time to ensure that the organization can provide its many programs and run its exhibition venues. Without the help of its members in volunteer roles, Arteast would not be the dynamic organization it is.

Two members have recently stepped down from their volunteer roles and the following positions need to be filled as soon as possible. Arteast needs your help. Get involved to keep Arteast fresh and strong.

SECRETARY (needed by mid September):

The Secretary of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors attends the Committee and Board meetings (eight times a year; Tuesday evening; next meeting in September) and records the minutes of these meetings. This person doesn't need to be a professional writer but should have good writing skills. The former Secretary is willing to provide orientation and guidance to the incoming Secretary.

GROW WITH ART (GWA) LEAD COORDINATOR

This person leads a team of members in organizing the monthly GWA meetings, the annual bus trip to Montreal and other activities, such as workshops, as opportunities present themselves. The current members of the team are all experienced and will provide excellent support to their lead. In addition, the former Lead Coordinator plans to remain with the team and will be able to guide and advise the new lead.

FUTURE NEED FOR VOLUNTEER - VICE PRESIDENT

Arteast needs a member to step forward to take on the role of Vice President in January 2016. You can make an important contribution to your organization and help shape Arteast's future by joining the Executive in this capacity. The key purpose of the VP is to support the President and assist that person with their duties. It is not essential to have professional experience as an executive or a manager but you should have organizational skills, good judgement and common sense....attributes that we all develop from life's experiences. You have what it takes and your organization needs you for VP.

ARTEAST A BESOIN DE VOUS

Arteast est une association dont les membres sont des bénévoles. En tant que membres vous pouvez contribuer en donnant un peu de votre temps afin que l’organisation puisse maintenir ses nombreux programmes et activités. Sans l’aide bénévole de ses membres, Arteast ne pourrait pas être l’organisation que l’on connaît.

Dernièrement, deux membres ont quitté leur rôle de bénévolat, ces deux positions doivent donc être comblées le plus tôt possible. Arteast a besoin de votre aide. En vous impliquant, vous aidez Arteast à être une organisation forte et d’actualité.

Secrétaire (au plus tard - mi-septembre):

La Secrétaire du Comité exécutif et de Direction participe aux réunions de Direction (huit fois par an; les mardis soirs; la prochaine réunion débutera en septembre) et doit prendre les notes et procès-verbaux des réunions. Cette personne n’a pas besoin d’être professionnelle mais doit avoir des aptitudes d’écriture. La Secrétaire sortante donnera l’aide requise à la personne voulant occuper cette position.

L’art en herbe (GWA) Responsable à la coordination

Cette personne est responsable d’un groupe de membres à l’organisation mensuelle de GWA, du voyage en autobus annuel à Montréal et autres activités, tel que : les ateliers. Les membres du groupe actuel ont de l’expérience et seront d’un excellent support. Aussi, la Responsable sortante sera dans le groupe et pourra aider la nouvelle venue à cette position.

Besoin de bénévole à titre de Vice-Présidente ou V.-Président

Pour janvier 2016, Arteast a besoin d’un membre pour occuper le rôle de Vice-Présidente ou V.- Président. Vous pouvez être d’une grande contribution à votre association en vous joignant à l’Exécutif d’Arteast. Les fonctions clés du VP est de supporter la Présidente et de l’assister dans ses responsabilités. Il n’est pas nécessaire d’avoir une formation professionnelle comme exécutif ou en gestion mais avoir des aptitudes d’organisation et un bon jugement… qualités que vous avez développées tout le long de vos expériences de vie. Vous avez ce qu’il faut et votre association a besoin de vous comme VP.

Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:

- reduces printing and envelope costs;

- makes Arteast more "green";

- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).

Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

• The number of artworks has been limited to one per artist due to the space restrictions.
• Bring your signed 'hard copy' of the registration form and submission fee to the drop off.

5. Members Announcements

 Arbor Gallery presents a solo exhibition of Virginia Dupuis’ oil paintings.

This show is titled Threads of Time and runs from August 27 to September 20.

The artwork of stitched doilies, afghans and tablecloths, curated by JC Olsthoorn,

pays tribute to the often overlooked craft of women’s handiwork.

Threads represent the simplest, fragile, strands of memories “of a time” - a time long ago,

and “of time” - time so generously embued in each stitch.

The thread that runs through the whole of this exhibition is respect for simple traditions,

for those who nurture or pass on their skills. It is this continuity of

patient persistence that pervades the “Threads of Time”.

Meet the artist and curator: Sunday August 30 from 1 to 3 pm.

Location: Arbor Gallery – Centre for Contemporary Art, 36 Home Ave, Vankleek Hill, On K0B1R0

Hours: Thursday to Sunday: 12 to 4 pm.

Jessie Parker has joined artist run Galerie Côté Créations , a new gallery in the west end at 98 Richmond Road (just west of Island Park Drive). Founded by Mont Tremblant artist Yan-Éric Côté, this gallery is sponsored by a real estate developer, Ashcroft Homes, who sponsors the huge industrial space on the main floor of a new condo development, while the artists donate a percentage of their sales of the art to the Ottawa Hospital Foundation. The artists represented share gallery duty , meeting the public during gallery hours. The public is welcome to visit 11am to 5pm Thursday to Sunday.

4. Members Announcements

Starting September 2, 2015 until the end of the month, Christine (Lenoir) Godin will have a solo exhibition of new works.  It takes place at:  La Maison des arts, 2 LaPalme Street in Embrun, Ont. on the corner of Notre Dame and Lapalme streets.

The vernissage is  Sunday, September 13 from 1 to 3pm 

5. Art on the Farm in the Arboretum

Saturday August 15 from 10am to 4pm

The Friends' premier summer event Art on the Farm showcases local and regional artists displaying and selling their original artwork. There's so much to savour in one day - paintings, sculpture, glass art, woodwork, pottery, stoneware, and jewelry. There isn't a more beautiful and peaceful setting than under the luxurious canopy of the CEF Arboretum next to Building 72. The event is free and located just east of the Prince of Wales roundabout.

This year we are including a silent auction of donated artwork plus a Bistro featuring handmade Ottawa Valley baked goods, exotic Costa Rican coffee, vanilla bean, cacao nibs, and more. Petrie Island has some restriction : Users of the picnic area are reminded: 9 pm curfew, no dogs on the island, no alcohol, clean up afterwards, don’t feed those cute looking animals, don’t catch the frogs or turtles, don’t pick the nice flowers. If you want to cook food, bring your own gas barbeque — no charcoal please because there is no place to safely dispose of the coals.

La prochaine activité sera le pique-nique familial qui aura lieu à l'île Petrie, samedi le 22 août de 10h à 14h. Venez partager cette belle journée avec vos collègues, vos enfants, vos petit enfants, votre époux/se. Veuillez bien apporter votre diner.

 

Nous aurons des activités artistiques pour les petits, et peut-être les plus grands pourront faire de la peinture plein air.

 

La zone de pique-nique est située à l'ouest de la zone de la plage principale. Elle contient un certain nombre d'arbres matures qui offrent de l’ombre. Il y a aussi une plage pour les petits enfants.

 

Stationnement : Le coût est de $2.00 pour 5 hrs.

 

Les restrictions à l’île Pétrie : Les utilisateurs de la zone de pique-nique n'ont pas le droit de faire des feux, d'apporter leurs chiens ou d'apporter de l'alcool. S.V.P. bien ramasser et nettoyer après l'activité, ne nourrissez pas les mignons animaux, n'attrapez pas les grenouilles ou les tortues et ne ramassez pas les belles fleurs. Si vous voulez faire cuire de la nourriture, apportez votre propre barbecue à gaz - pas de charbon s'il vous plaît, car il n'y a aucun endroit où le jeter en sécurité.

 The Ottawa School of Art Orleans Campus is proud to present its annual Instructors Exhibition, from August 7 to September 6 at the Ottawa School of Art’s Orleans Gallery on the main floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre, Orleans. Reception: meet the artists takes place on Sunday, August 23 from 1pm to 3pm. All welcome!

This exhibition offers an opportunity for students and community alike to see, the high caliber and wide variety of media, techniques and styles of art being taught at the school. The 2015 Instructors’ Exhibition features painting, sculpture, watercolour, mixed media, book binding, and much more.
