1. Grow with Art - Grandir avec L’art

October Speaker – Suzanne Warren Powell

Tuesday October 22 – mardi le 22 octobre
7:00 “Meet and Greet” à 19h
7:30 Announcements / Annonces à 19h30
7 :45 Présentation à 19h45
Room 340 - salle 340
255 Centrum Blvd / boul Centrum

In all things creative, what gets overlooked is the absolute uniqueness of every individual. Suzanne Warren Powell will provide an overview of some of the paths, people and ideas that affected her artistic journey.

Suzanne has been teaching Fine Art and mentoring in Creativity since 1985, through the City of Ottawa, regional School Boards, Art Associations and her own studio. Previously, she earned degrees in the Arts, Education and has Master’s degree in Educational Technology. As a result, she is well-known for creating and designing new and exciting classes in the fine arts.

Originally destined to be a performance musician, Suzanne learned to play musical instruments and sang in professional groups. However, she resumed a keen interest in painting and soon won several awards. Teaching offers quickly followed.

In 2001, Suzanne co-founded OMMA (Ottawa Mixed Media Artists) with two of her students to further the awareness of, and showcase Mixed Media painting which she had been teaching for several years. OMMA currently exhibits throughout the capital region. On its inception, Suzanne was honoured with the title of permanent artist/mentor for OMMA.

Her love of nature and a Zen approach to life and creativity has led Suzanne into the arts and culture of the Far East. She practices Miksang photography, a form of meditative Tibetan Dharma art and writes Haiku poetry. Suzanne lives on a large rural property which features trails through meadows, woods and wetlands. This untamed landscape renews her artistic vision every day.

Recently, Suzanne has been teaching Wabi Sabi art (the Japanese aesthetic branch of Zen philosophy), Japonisme and Expressive Drawing. This presentation will be in English.

-----------

3. Arteast Members Invitated to Exhibit at Luna Sole Restaurant in 2018

There are eight opportunities for member artists to have solo exhibitions at Luna Sole Restaurant in 2018. The available dates are attached. Note that the last date (December 4 to January 8) is a group show of the 2018 participating artists.

Displays are mounted on the restaurant walls for approximately six weeks, beginning January 2nd. Examples of exhibitors can be found at the Luna Sole page of the Arteast website (www.arteastottawa.com)

Luna Sole is located in the mall at the corner of Youville Drive and Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard.

There is no charge to participate but sales are subject to a 15% commission paid to Arteast. The usual Arteast conditions apply, which include being a current member of Arteast. Also, because most of the artwork will be hung in a rather high traffic area, it is very important that the frame be fitted with wire rather than clips. Exhibitors should visit the site to familiarize themselves with the exhibition space – which is a wall, dominated by an operating television set. Depending on the size of the work up to eight pieces can be shown on this wall. There are also two separate walls that are suitable for one large picture each.

Exhibitors accept responsibility for any penalties incurred and abide by the Arteast Coordinator’s decisions. Arteast is released from any responsibility for loss or damages to any of the artworks. It is also agreed that Arteast has the right to use work entered in the exhibition for promotional purposes without this infringing on any copyright.

Please respond to the Coordinators– Gwen Cowan or Richard Pell - at your earliest convenience with your selected first and second choice of dates.

For more information, please feel free to call or e-mail at
Gwen Cowan: gwencowan@rogers.com; 613-744-3909
Richard Pell: richardpell@rogers.com; 613-491-0420

St-Laurent Library, in conjunction with Arteast, is proud to present an exhibition of paintings by Perth artist Judy Hollinger. This solo show is titled Back and Forth and runs from September 29 to January 5, 2018.

In her art practice, Judy is drawn to the exploration of opposites - light versus dark, warm versus cool, complementary versus similar colours, defined lines versus lost edges. She works between order and chaos, abstraction and realism. Her current collection, Back and Forth, reflects this. Close ups of flowers and plants allow her to use realism in the foreground with elements of abstraction in the background. Judy works primarily in acrylics.

This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support artists in their local community as well as the St-Laurent Library.
