In addition, this is a night for members to get together and just have a great time. So come join us!

2. Preliminary Call for Artwork for Arteast’s “Mosaic"

A juried exhibition to be presented in the Trinity gallery, Shenkman Arts Centre from February 14 to Mach 19, 2019

Coming up in February 2019 is the next Arteast juried show. Arteast members are encouraged to submit their best two and three dimensional work to this annual exhibition. We are looking for insightful, creative, visual art in all media.

There is no theme for this show.

There is an entry fee of $10 for one artwork submitted or $15 for two artworks.

Entrants must be or will become members of Arteast.

Registration for this exhibition is required.

Registration opens Nov 20th and closes Dec 15th, 2018.

En février 2019 aura lieu la prochaine exposition-concours d’Arteast. Les membres d'Arteast sont encouragés à soumettre leurs meilleurs œuvres en deux et trois dimensions à cette exposition annuelle. Nous recherchons des arts visuel perspicace, créatif et créatif.

3. Call for Artists:  Lunasole Bistro

Arteast members are invited to exhibit at Lunasole restaurant  in 2019

There are eleven opportunities for Arteast members to have a solo exhibitions at Lunasole Restaurant in 2019. The available dates are listed below. Note that the last date (November 19th to January 21st ) is a group show of the 2019 participating artists.

Displays are mounted on the restaurant walls for approximately one month, beginning January 10th. Examples of exhibitors can be found at the Lunasole page of the Arteast website (www.arteastottawa.com)

Lunasole is located in the mall at the corner of Youville Drive and Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard.

There is no charge to participate but sales are subject to a 15% commission paid to Arteast. The usual Arteast conditions and penalties apply, which include being a current member of Arteast. Also, because most of the artwork will be hung in a rather high traffic area, it is very important that the frame be fitted with wire rather than clips. Exhibitors should visit the site to familiarize themselves with the exhibition space. Depending on the size of the work, up to eight pieces can be shown on the main wall and one or two larger pieces on a second wall.

Exhibitors accept responsibility for any penalties incurred and abide by the Arteast Coordinator’s decisions. Arteast is released from any responsibility for loss or damages to any of the artworks. It is also agreed that Arteast has the right to use work entered in the exhibition for promotional purposes without this infringing on any copyright.

Elevation Pictures has a new film coming to theatres titled At Eternity’s Gate, a movie about the final days of painter Vincent van Gogh. The film is directed by Julian Schnabel with star studded cast featuring Willem Dafoe, Rupert Friend, Oscar Isaac, Mads Mikkelsen.

Title: Raising Stanley / Life With Tulia

Speaker: Karen Bailey

Have you ever seen a well-behaved guide dog for the blind walking easily with their handler along crowded streets? Did you wonder, “How was this dog raised?” “What’s life like working with a guide dog?”

Raising Stanley / Life With Tulia, is a collaborative performance and exhibition that describes the journey from puppy to working guide dog for the blind. Karen Bailey painted Stanley, a guide dog puppy she and her husband raised for Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind, engaged in a multitude of activities that mirror his future working life. Karen will recount the process of creating her paintings of Stanley and her unusual collaboration with Kim Kilpatrick, a blind storyteller, who performs stories of life with Tulia, a working guide dog. Their accessible production combines storytelling, painting and video and will be presented in the Studio Theatre and Fritzi Gallery of the Great Canadian theatre Company in the summer of 2018.

Karen Bailey’s diverse career spans three decades. Many of her acrylic paintings feature behind-the-scenes workers and the under-recognized including waitresses, hairstylists, church tea ladies and service dogs. She traveled to Afghanistan in 2007 as an appointed military artist to document Canadian military medical personnel at the Role 3 Hospital in Kandahar. Her official portrait of the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, 27th Governor General of Canada, was unveiled at Rideau Hall in 2012. Fogo Island, Newfoundland is the inspiration for her current work-in-progress.

Help Wanted: Administrative Assistant
Part-time; approx. 6 hours/week
Salary: $18/hour

This a contract position.

The Administrative Assistant will undertake a wide variety of activities in supporting the Board of Directors and the Planning and Management Committee.

Responsibilities:

• Undertake basic bookkeeping tasks, including maintaining related files and records.
• Assist in the preparation of regularly-scheduled accounting reports.
• Update and maintain membership records and file.
• Prepare and mail welcome packages to new members.
• Notify members re renewals of membership.
• Receive, prepare and dispatch Arteast's weekly Digest of announcements (via Blogspot).
• Update and maintain all social media accounts, approved by the Board.
• Ensure Arteast is marketed on relevant current social media sites.
• Assist Facebook and Show coordinators with all Arteast calls for artists, exhibitions, etc.
• Ensure that the Arteast website is up-to-date, by liaising with the web administrator to add and remove information.
• Receive and forward to the web administrator changeover notices, Grow with Art meetings and other notices about Arteast activities and programs.
• Actively research grants for Arteast.
• Assist the lead coordinators of the annual juried shows. i.e. Mosaic (Trinity Gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre) and the Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition (St. Laurent Recreation Complex), by providing data entry services and compilation of lists for the registration of exhibition applicants.
• Attend meetings of the Board and the Management and Planning Committee.
• Responsible for general administrative duties as required.
• Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors from time to time.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of Arteast and the general Arts community.
• Computer and social media skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, with an exceptional attention-to-detail facility.
• Superior organizational, inter-personal, multi-tasking and time management skills.
• Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
• Team player who is proactive, flexible and can prioritize.

Assets:

• Experience of Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
• Knowledge of QuickBooks.

5. Orleans Library Exhibition Changeover - Reminder: May 1, 2018

It's time to change the exhibition of artworks at the Orleans Library, 1705 Orleans Blvd., Orleans, Ontario.

On Tuesday, May 1, 2018, please retrieve the works that are currently hanging and/or bring in new paintings (or other two-dimensional art) to the Orleans Library. These new pieces will be hung until

July 3, 2018. The changeover at the Orleans Library is between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

There are no hanging fees for the Orleans Library Exhibitions.

Please be prepared to record the following information on the back of your paintings: title; medium; size; and, price; along with your name, phone number and e-mail. You can bring up to five (5) paintings although, depending on the total received, not all may be accepted. Paintings must be properly framed and ready for hanging. For those of you who are bringing in paintings for the first time this year, there is an Arteast contract you must sign. Blank contracts will be available then at the Library from the coordinator.

When someone expresses an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be advised to contact you directly to make the transaction. Fifteen percent of any sale is payable to Arteast for its operational budget. We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each exhibition. Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to ensure their security.

6. Glass Fusing Workshop Friday, May 18, 10:00 am

Grow with Art is organizing a glass fusing workshop with Jennifer Anne Kelly of Current Works of Glass. We hope to organize a carpool for transportation.

Cost: Everyone would pay the fee of $40 or $45 for their project. We could then go as a group for lunch in Cumberland. The lunch out would be optional and an individual expense.

At the end of the evening your creations go into the kiln. Finished pieces are ready for pick up within a week. This class offers a little bit of glass teaching and a lot of creativity and laughter. Colour takes paintings to giddy heights or sends them to the depths with little in between!

Saturday 17 Mar 2018 - The 100th Break-a-Brush workshop – profiling some of our favorite artists and techniques! Marking our 100th Break-a-Brush workshop, David will review some of his most his favored painting processes and techniques as well as comment on artists that have influenced his work. He will take requests for demos and segments from the participants!

Saturday 24 Mar 2018 - People in their environments This workshop will explore creating vivid living compositions in dry media and paint, working from both live model and photo references. The workshop will exploring people in real world situations - placing people into scenes and compositions.

Please note you’re allowed to register up to 2 art piece for the Holiday Mix and each piece max size cannot exceed 12” x 12” (this includes with frame). Displays are mounted on the restaurant walls for approximately six weeks, beginning January 2nd. Examples of exhibitors can be found at the Luna Sole page of the Arteast website (www.arteastottawa.com)

Luna Sole is located in the mall at the corner of Youville Drive and Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard.

There is no charge to participate but sales are subject to a 15% commission paid to Arteast. The usual Arteast conditions apply, which include being a current member of Arteast. Also, because most of the artwork will be hung in a rather high traffic area, it is very important that the frame be fitted with wire rather than clips. Exhibitors should visit the site to familiarize themselves with the exhibition space – which is a wall, dominated by an operating television set. Depending on the size of the work up to eight pieces can be shown on this wall. There are also two separate walls that are suitable for one large picture each.

Exhibitors accept responsibility for any penalties incurred and abide by the Arteast Coordinator’s decisions. Arteast is released from any responsibility for loss or damages to any of the artworks. It is also agreed that Arteast has the right to use work entered in the exhibition for promotional purposes without this infringing on any copyright.

4. Orleans Library Exhibition Changeover - Reminder

It's time to change the exhibition at the Orleans Library, 1705 Orleans Blvd., Orleans, Ontario.

On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, please retrieve the works that are currently hanging and/or bring in new paintings (or other two-dimensional art) to the Orleans Library. These new pieces will be hung until January 2, 2018. The changeover at the Orleans Library is between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Please be prepared to record the following information on the back of your paintings: title; medium; size; and, price; along with your name, phone number and e-mail. You can bring up to five (5) paintings although, depending on the total received, not all may be accepted. Paintings must be properly framed and ready for hanging. For those of you who are bringing in paintings for the first time this year, there is an Arteast contract you must sign. Blank contracts will be available then at the Library. There are no hanging fees for the Orleans Library Exhibitions.

When someone expresses an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be advised to contact you directly to make the transaction. Fifteen percent of any sale is payable to Arteast for its operational budget. We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each exhibition. Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to ensure their security.

5. Arteast Community Outreach Project

Hello fellow artists,

The Arteast Community Outreach is doing a project at ABI day program ( Acquired Brain Injury) at Bob Mac Quarrie Recreation Complex-Orléans. We choose this group as it has adults with special needs and are Anglophone adults. We will be guiding 12 participants in a 10am to noon watercolor workshop. Arteast will supply all equipment for this project.

6. Call for Art - François Dupuis Recreation Centre

The Arteast Team at the François Dupuis Recreation Centre would like to issue a call for art for the next four exhibits as described below. This exhibit space can only accommodate 4 artists at a time, showing 4 to 5 pieces depending on the artworks' size

1. “Spring in the Air 2018 ” - March 12 to May 14, 2018
2. "Summer Colours 2018 " - May 14 to July 16, 2018
3. “Full Bloom 2018 ” – July 16 to September 17, 2018
4. “Fall Rhapsody 2018 “ – September 17 to November 12, 2018

Artwork from the current show is to be picked up from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and new artwork is to be hung at 7 pm. ARTWORK BEING PICKED UP MUST BE SIGNED OUT WITH SOMEONE FROM THE FRANÇOIS DUPUIS TEAM: That would be either Maryse, Mark or Cheryl.

The François Dupuis Centre is an inviting and fitting space for Arteast members to display their works. Each artist will have a maximum of 10 feet of wall space to display two-dimensional pieces of art for sale. Items must be dry and ready to hang. The exhibit space is designed to accept works in a single horizontal line. *Clusters of paintings in vertical groupings cannot be accommodated.*

The centre is also very accessible. It is open seven days a week, specifically from 6:45 am to 9:45 pm, Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 7:30 pm Saturday and 7:45 am to 6 pm Sunday.

Artists are responsible for all handling and hanging of their artwork. A small step stool is available for use or you may provide your own. An exhibit fee of $20 per artist applies. Please refer to Arteast’s website for forms and regulations. Artwork without proper hanging hardware will, unfortunately, not be accepted. Please refer to rule #4 for more details.

Joyce Buckley Exhibit 
Joyce Buckley, is pleased to present an exhibition of oil paintings and charcoal drawings to be on display from November 7, 2017 to January 4, 2018. This series of drawings was inspired by an exhibition at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts ‘Revolution’ this Summer. The exhibition retraced ideas and aspirations of the late 1960s expressed in film, fashion, design, activism and music from the Beatles to Jimi Hendrix.

A showing of photographic prints from their camping trip in 2017 where they went out to do comparative photography in an area that they have traveled many times over the last three decades. Along the way they visited as many swimming places as they could find - from spa pools to the local swimming hole to the Lake Superior shores. On their return, they expected to see Jake's serene panoramic landscapes and Jane's curious investigations of people and nature. Claire Cameron at Luna Sole - Members’ Announcements - AOE Announcements - Art on the Farm in the Arboretum - Sponsors’ Announcements

1. Claire Cameron at Luna Sole

Claire Cameron is our current artist showing at the Luna Sole Restaurant. Art has been a crucial part of Claires life but has had to take a backseat to obtaining an Engineering degree and working with the Canadian Forces and then on to Project management. However, through the years art education and training has been present in various forms from weekly classes to intensive workshops, including:

-Workshops at Confederation Centre of the Arts
-Mixed media at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design
-Watercolour Studies at Canadore College
-Life drawing skills with Ottawa Adult Education
-Encaustic workshops, and Drawing with Colour at Winnipeg Arty Gallery

Claire's preferred medium is encaustic on wood, often with additional media embedded. On the other end of the spectrum, she often works with watercolour, creating small pictures often of waves or flowers. She is excited to be exploring digital art and has begun working with several applications to discover what can be created.

Luna Sole Restaurant is located at 5935 Jeanne D’arc Blvd in Orleans.  

The show is on until September 12th.

ALSFORD-PHILLIPS ART STUDIO OPEN HOUSE

Lynne Alsford and Mike Phillips invite fellow members of Arteast to their 6th annual studio open house on the following dates:

- Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 August, noon - 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August, noon - 4:00 p.m.
- Monday 7 through Thursday 10 August - 10 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., by appointment only.

Lynne and Mike will be showing paintings and junk-art sculpture, as well as traditional and digitally manipulated photographs. It's also a chance to hear about how they built the studio and meet "Stumpy".

4. Art on the Farm in the Arboretum

Friends of the Farm's premier summer event Art on the Farm showcases local and regional artists. There isn't a more beautiful and peaceful setting in Ottawa than under the luxurious canopy of the Arboretum next to Building 72 on the Central Experimental Farm. A wide range of original media is featured including watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings, glass fusion and jewelry, wire works and stained glass, wood and leather, pottery and scroll saw art, and more.

The event is FREE to the public and runs from 10am to 4pm Saturday August 12 with a rain date on Sunday August 13 (10am to 4pm). A silent auction, food, and beverages will also be part of the event.
