The public is invited to the opening of Arteast's latest juried show, “Mosaic”. The reception takes place on Sunday, February 16th 2020, from 1-3 p.m. in the Trinity Gallery on the Ground Floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Blvd. in Orleans.

Arteast members were encouraged to submit their best two and three dimensional work to this annual juried exhibition. The assorted works on display are representative of the insightful, imaginative, original visual art that Arteast members create.

Three Juror’s Choice Awards will be presented plus the Arteast Award of Excellence.

Le public est invité au vernissage de l’exposition avec jury appelée ‘Mosaïque’. La réception aura lieu le dimanche 16 février 2020 de 13 à 15h à la Galerie Trinity , Niveau 1 du Centre des Arts Shenkman, 245 boul. Centrum à Orléans.

Les membres d’Arteast ont été encouragé à soumettre leurs meilleures œuvres en 2 ou 3 dimensions à cette exposition annuelle avec jury. Les travaux exposés représentent la perspicacité, l’imagination et la création d’œuvres originales de la part des membres. 

En plus d’une mention d’excellence, trois mentions spéciales sont sélectionnées par le jury. 

2. Winter Inspiration-Inspiration d’hiver 2020

Le public est invité au vernissage de l’exposition Winter Inspiration-Inspiration d’hiver, 2020 présenté par les membres d’Arteast à la Promenade Arteast du Centre des Arts Shenkman.

La réception aura lieu le dimanche 16 février 2020, de 13h à 15h, au niveau 1 du Centre des Arts Shenkman, 245 boulevard Centrum, Orléans.

Arteast est fière de présenter lors de cette exposition, les œuvres de 19 artistes de la région, membres d’Arteast, où l’on pourra admirer une variété de sujets, de styles et de médiums. La qualité et la variété de leurs œuvres enrichissent la communauté artistique d’Ottawa. Il y a une histoire derrière chaque œuvre unique, elle est représentative de l’expérience, du vécu et du talent de l’artiste!

L’exposition se déroulera du 13 février au 20 avril 2020.

The public is invited to a reception for Winter Inspiration – Inspiration d’hiver, 2020 the latest show to be presented by Arteast. The reception will take place on Sunday, February 16th, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the ground floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard, Orleans.

3. Member's News

Arteast member Kerstin Peters offers the three week mini session "Introduction to Painting with Watercolour, Acrylic and Oil Paint" at 1270 Kinsella Drive, Cumberland, ON, K4C 1A9. By painting flowers with different mediums, the participants will be able to find out which medium is best suited for them. Classes are held every second week to give the participants time to finish the paintings at home if necessary. All the materials are included in the registration fee. This is a beginners course.

Tuesday, February 18, March 3, and 17, 2020 from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm: $150 (materials are included, 4 – 8 students).

Arteast Digest: Promenade Exhibit and Reception, Grow with Art

1. Promenade Exhibit and Reception

The public is invited to an opening reception for "Autumn Inspiration – Inspiration d’automne" - the latest show to be presented by Arteast Ottawa. The reception will take place on Sunday, September 29th from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on the ground floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard, Orleans.

The exhibition runs from September 26th to November 26th, 2019.

Based on the theme of Autumn, this show will present the works of 30 members, comprising 19 paintings and 11 stone sculptures of adorable bears. The paintings feature a wide range of subjects in various media. The bears were produced by Arteast members at a workshop with local, award winning sculptor and Arteast member Patrick Imai. Each participant worked on and finished a soapstone bear. Participating artists will be present to discuss their work.

Sur le thème de l’automne, l’exposition présentera les œuvres de 30 artistes membres, comprenant 19 peintures et 11 sculptures d’adorables petits ours en pierre! Les peintures présentent plusieurs sujets et sont produites dans une grande variété de médiums. Les ours ont été créés lors d’un atelier d’un jour animé par Patrick Imai, sculpteur primé et membre d’Arteast, très bien connu pour sa passion et son talent dans la sculpture des ours en pierre. Les participants de cet atelier seront présents pour discuter de leur travail.

Jeanne Vaillancourt cherche à traduire dans ses oeuvres les impressions que suscitent en elle la nature qui l’entoure, ses voyages en Europe et en Asie, ou la vie tout simplement. Sa passion pour la gravure et l’impression se perçoit dans ses nombreuses années de pratique et de perfectionnement. Spécialiste de la gravure à l’eau forte, un procédé de gravure sur une plaque métallique à l’aide d’un mordant chimique, elle aime aussi expérimenter avec la linogravure ainsi qu’avec les techniques mixtes.

Based on the theme of summer, this show will present the works of 21 members, featuring a wide range of subjects in various media. Summer is captured with imagination and creativity to celebrate this ephemeral season.

2. Call for Art - François Dupuis Recreation Centre

The Arteast Team at the François Dupuis Recreation Centre would like to issue a call for art for the next year’s exhibits as described below. This exhibit space can only accommodate 4 artists at a time, showing 4 to 5 pieces depending on the artworks' size

• Winter Inspiration - Jan 13 to March 16, 2020
• Spring in the Air - March 16 to May 11, 2020
• Summer Colours - May 11 to July 13, 2020
• Full Bloom - July 13 to September 14, 2020
• Fall Rhapsody - September 14 to November 16, 2020

Please email francoisdupuis@arteastottawa.com if interested. Changeovers take place in the evening, beginning at 6:30 pm. Artwork from the current show is to be picked up from 6:30 to 7:00 pm and new artwork is to be hung at 7 pm. ARTWORK BEING PICKED UP MUST BE SIGNED OUT WITH SOMEONE FROM THE FRANÇOIS DUPUIS TEAM: That would be either Kendall, Mark or Cheryl.

Each artist will have a maximum of 10 feet of wall space to display two-dimensional pieces of art for sale. Items must be dry and ready to hang. The exhibit space is designed to accept works in a single horizontal line. *Clusters of paintings in vertical groupings cannot be accommodated.

The centre is also very accessible. It is open seven days a week, specifically from 6:45 am to 9:45 pm, Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 7:30 pm Saturday and 7:45 am to 6 pm Sunday.

Artists are responsible for all handling and hanging of their artwork. A small step stool is available for use or you may provide your own. An exhibit fee of $20 per artist applies. Please refer to Arteast’s website for forms and regulations. Artwork without proper hanging hardware will, unfortunately, not be accepted. Please refer to rule #4 for more details.

L’équipe d’Arteast du Centre récréatif François Dupuis lance un appel aux artistes pour les six prochaines expositions décrites comme suit: 

• Inspiration d'hiver - 13 jan au 16 mars 2020
• Enfin le printemps - 16 mars au 11 mai 2020
• Couleurs d’été - 11 mai au 13 juillet 2020
• En pleine floraison - 13 juillet au 14 septembre 2020
• Rhapsodie d'automne - 14 septembre au 16 novembre 2020

N.B. L’espace ne peut accommoder que 4 artistes en même temps, avec 4 ou 5 tableaux par artiste, selon leurs dimensions.

Envoyez votre demande par courriel à : francoisdupuis@arteastottawa.com. Le décrochage des tableaux débute à 18h30. Les tableaux de l’expo en cours doivent être repris entre 18h30 et 19h en prenant soin de signer une feuille en présence de Kendall, Mark ou Cheryl.

Chaque artiste dispose d’un espace de 10 pieds pour exposer des tableaux à vendre. Les items doivent être secs et prêts à accrocher. L’espace dispose d’une seule ligne horizontale pour les œuvres. (Les œuvres ne peuvent pas être superposées à la verticale). 

Le Centre est très accessible: ouvert sept jours /semaine, du lundi au vendredi de 6h45 à 21h45; le samedi de 7h45 à 19h30; le dimanche de 7h45 à 18h.

Les artistes sont responsables de l’accrochage. Un marche-pied est disponible ou vous pouvez apporter le vôtre. Les frais par artiste sont de 20$. Référez au site web d’Arteast pour les règlements et le formulaire. Les tableaux doivent avoir les bons crochets pour l’accrochage ou ne seront pas acceptés. Référez-vous au règlement numéro 4.

4. Last Plein Air Event 

In 2020, one of the exhibitions on the Promenade wall, Shenkman Arts Center, will be dedicated to those who have participated in one of three (3) Arteast sponsored plein air events (Trip to Montreal and last week at Mer Bleue). Artists will be selected on a first come basis once the call is announced in the Digest and Website early in 2020. Art work will have to have been either created on site or derived from studies or photographs taken during the events. Artworks will also have to fit within the size parameters for a regular Promenade exhibition.


The last date for the sponsored plein air events is Saturday, July 27 (rain date Sunday, July 28th) 10 am to 3pm: Danielle Beaulieu’s garden in Cumberland (http://www.daniellesgarden.ca)

Artists are responsible for bringing: 

• Painting / Drawing Supplies
• Camera / Binoculars (if required)
• A lunch and drinks
• Hat / Sunscreen / Sunglasses
• Bug Spray

The Blackburn Library in conjunction with Arteast is proud to present an exhibition.

Over the years, I have worked with several mediums: oils, acrylics, watercolors, etchings, etc. Lately (since I have my first Mac SE30) I have become fascinated in applying my artistic endeavors to exploring the world of digital art. The computer allows me to experiment with a vast array of tools: brushes, pens, pencils, textures and millions of colors.

Recently, I have been preoccupied with ArtRage 5, a standalone, drawing and painting application with incredible realistic simulation of the everyday world. I also toyed with the free application KRITA and others Procreate, HewPaint, Zen Brush 2 and Affinity Designer. The use of these applications (other than Photoshop) is greatly favored by the digital art community.

This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support local artists in their community as well as engaging with the Blackburn Library.

Le public est invité au vernissage de l’exposition « More big Ideas – Voir plus grand » présenté par les membres d’Arteast. La réception aura lieu le jeudi 23 août 2018, de 19h à 21h au niveau 1 du Centre des Arts Shenkman, 245 boulevard Centrum à Orléans. 

Basé sur le thème des grandes idées, 9 œuvres d’art grands formats présentent avec dynamisme le talent des artistes. Pour faire un équilibre, 4 petites œuvres sont présentées dans le cabinet de l’exposition. Avec une variété de sujets et de médium, les artistes font preuves d’une grande imagination et créativité du plus petit au plus grand!

The public is invited to a reception for More Big Ideas – Voir plus grand - the latest show to be presented by Arteast. The reception will take place on Thursday, August 23, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the ground floor of the Shenkman Arts Centre, 245 Centrum Boulevard, Orleans.

Based on the theme of "big ideas", nine artists will grace the Promenade Gallery with dramatic large canvases to present their interpretations of this theme. Four smaller works will also be displayed. The show presents works on a variety of subjects executed in different media and genres, rendered with imagination and creativity.

2. Orleans Library Exhibition Changeover - Reminder: September 4, 2018

It's time to change the exhibition of artworks at the Orleans Library, 1705 Orleans Blvd., Orleans, Ontario.

On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, please retrieve the works that are currently hanging and/or bring in new paintings (or other two-dimensional art) to the Orleans Library. These new pieces will be hung until November 6, 2018. The changeover at the Orleans Library is between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

There are no hanging fees for the Orleans Library Exhibitions.

Please be prepared to record the following information on the back of your paintings: title; medium; size; and, price; along with your name, phone number and e-mail. You can bring up to five (5) paintings although, depending on the total received, not all may be accepted. Paintings must be properly framed and wired (D-rings) for hanging. For those of you who are bringing in paintings for the first time this year, there is an Arteast contract you must sign. Blank contracts will be available then at the Library from the coordinator.

When someone expresses an interest in purchasing a piece, they will be advised to contact you directly to make the transaction. Fifteen percent of any sale is payable to Arteast for its operational budget. We prefer to leave all works hanging for the duration of each exhibition. Neither the Library nor Arteast takes responsibility for the security of works exhibited but reasonable care is taken to ensure their security.

We look forward to seeing exhibitors on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at 10:30 a.m.

Call for artists

The 37th Annual Arteast Juried Awards Exhibition will be held at St Laurent Complex, 525 Côté Street, Ottawa K1K 0Z8 from Sunday September 16th, 2018, through Wednesday, November 21st, 2018.

The "Rules of the Exhibition" and the "Registration Form" are inserted in the summer issue of the "Communiqué" and can also be found on the Arteast web site at www.arteastottawa.com

4. Opportunité d'exposition au centre MIFO

La Galerie d’art Eugène-Racette du Mouvement d’implication francophone d’Orléans (MIFO) s’associe à Arteast Ottawa, le temps d’un mois d’exposition. Quatre artistes francophones d‘Arteast auront l’occasion d’exposer entre trois et quatre de leurs œuvres dans le but de contribuer au développement culturel de la région.

À cette fin, Arteast lance un appel ouvert à ses membres francophones pour des soumissions d’exposition.

Date limite et avis

Les propositions doivent être transmises  par courriel à dbeaul0155@rogers.com  au plus tard le vendredi, 7 septembre 2018 à minuit. Les propositions en retard ou incomplètes ne seront pas évaluées.

La décision du comité d’évaluation sera transmise par courriel aux candidats environ deux mois après la date limite.

5. Member's Announcement

“NAKED AMID THE RUINS”  solo exhibition by Roy Whiddon.

EIGHT YEARS … 20+ MODELS … ONE ABANDONED FACTORY.

Since 2011, Roy Whiddon has been photographing models nude in the abandoned Howard Smith paper mill in Beauharnois, Québec. The figures interact with the harsh surroundings in a variety of ways: sometimes succumbing to its power, sometimes actively engaging, and sometimes exploring playfully.
