In accordance with article 8.13 of the Arteast Ottawa Bylaws, you are hereby notified of the Annual General meeting to be held on Tuesday January 28th 2020 at 19:00 hrs (7:00 pm), in room 340 at 255 Centrum

Blvd. in Orleans.

Your attendance is very important as the Corporation of Arteast Ottawa requires the presence of a minimum of 30 members to conduct general business as Arteast will be presenting amendments to the By-laws.

Documents were emailed to members on January 12, 2020.

Arteast will hold its Annual General Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 28 January 2020, in Room 340 at 255 Centrum Blvd. in Orleans. Arteast urges all members to attend this important annual meeting. The agenda and all items will be distributed to you by e-mail in early January. The AGM will be followed by the Grow With Art presentation (more details will follow later).

Sur l'invitation c'est marqué jusqu'au 4 janvier mais le centre'est fermé tout le temps de fêtes.

Danielle Beaulieu is pleased to announce that she has an upcoming solo exhibit at Shenkman Arts Centre, Ottawa, from January 9 to February 11, 2020. The exhibit is entitled “Blast from the Past” .

This exhibition, composed of more than 25 watercolours, will serve to remind viewers of a time without cellphones, WiF, etc. The common items we ﬁnd in antique shops are often overlooked by many people. These hold mysterious knowledge waiting patiently to be revealed.

Danielle Beaulieu gratefully acknowledges the ﬁnancial support of the ARTicipate Endowment Fund for this exhibit.

New York Art Trip 2020 March 19-22 Bus tour from Ottawa

Join us for New York Art Trip 2020 (March 19-22)! Three nights and four days visiting the newly expanded MoMa, the Met, the Guggenheim, the Frick, the Whitney and the Chelsea Galleries. Among many other special exhibits, we will visit a retrospective of Gerard Richter, considered one of the world’s greatest living artists. Discover the true magic of pencils in this single day, 5 hour workshop, which is designed to introduce you to the tools used by pencil artists who work in a realist style. Besides learning about all the various tools that help create the magic, you will also learn the real secret behind achieving those beautifully smooth blended tones that so many artists struggle to perfect. This workshop is the prerequisite for the other two.

Creating Realistic Textures in Graphite I - $60
Prerequisite: The Basics of Working in Graphite
Discover how to give your drawings beautiful depth with realistic textures! This single day, 5 hour workshop picks up where The Basics of Working in Graphite left off by helping you to practice your new skills and become intimately familiar with your pencil grades and what they can do. Watch the magic of pencil come to life as you learn to realistically portray the appearance and texture of grass, foliage, tree bark, wood grain and bricks in your drawings.

Creating Realistic Textures in Graphite II - $60
Prerequisite: The Basics of Working in Graphite
This workshop is exactly the same as the one above, except we will focus on learning to realistically portray the appearance and texture of skin, eyes, hair, fur and feathers in your drawings.

Please Note: NO previous drawing experience is necessary and each workshop is limited to six participants.

This is the last call for New York Art Trip 2018 (from Thursday, March 15 to Sunday, March 18). Three nights and four days visiting top art museums and galleries in NYC. Departure by motorcoach from Ottawa and pick-up location for participants from Kingston.

Jessie will explore how traditional photography has developed into modern photo-based art forms, a new medium in its own right which is rapidly evolving into many visual forms and variations, most involving digital techniques. She will share some of her own experiences with her own art media and also her husband’s to illustrate how varied and exciting this new innovative medium can be.

Arteast Ottawa and the François Dupuis Recreation Centre host a holiday exhibition of local art.

The public is invited to visit Arteast Ottawa’s lest art exhibition space at the François Dupuis Recreation Centre. This is the latest exhibit at the Centre, located at 2263 Portobello Boulevard, Ottawa, and includes works from four active volunteers within the Arteast membership.

Four artists show their fine art. Sissi Meng’s pieces are unique animal mandelas with an attention to detail. Egle Post provides vibrant colours that breathe hope of the new year. Lise Guindon’s portraits invite you in to meet the whole person. Richard Pell reminds us of the outdoors we may be cocooning away from. All these new beginnings are as welcome.

“New Beginnings” runs until March 13th at the François Dupuis Recreation Centre located at 2263 Portobello Boulevard in the Avalon area of Orleans. The centre is open seven days a week. All the artwork is for sale and any would make an excellent gift.

Blackburn Hamlet Library in conjunction with Arteast is proud to present an exhibition of mixed media artworks by Mary Ann Varley.

“I am very excited to be invited to show my work at the Blackburn Hamlet Library from January 28 to April 1, 2017. Being a mixed media artist, my works often include my photographic prints merged with creative drawing and painting. I like to render the elements of these settings in all sorts of weather conditions making atmospheric images.

These works include drawings and photo snap shots collaged with other papers into a mixed media painting.”

This is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and support artists in their local community as well as the Blackburn Hamlet Library.

My Manhattan Project at the Crichton Street Art Gallery

I am very excited to be invited to show my work at the Crichton Street Art Gallery from January 20 to February 11, 2017. This cosy gallery tucked in New Edinburgh is a vibrant spot to show my work. As the title implies, the works will focus on images of New York City. Being a mixed media artist, my works often include my photographic prints merged with creative drawing and painting.

I hope you can join me at the Vernissage Friday, January 20, between 5 and 8 pm or just drop into the Gallery, 299 Crichton St on any Saturday January 21, 28, February 4 and 11 from 11am to 4pm.

Jim Cummings :

I’m an amateur photographer living in Kanata, Ontario and use the Canon 40D and Canon ‘L’ series lenses. I’ve been fortunate enough to have one of my photos displayed at the Museum of Nature here in Ottawa, and will have 2 more displayed there this summer.

2. Joyce Buckley exhibition of oil paintings

Arteast artist, Joyce Buckley presents an exhibition of oil paintings at The Legal Information Centre of Ottawa, Suite 1400, 85 Albert St, Ottawa.

“Canada’s North – Capturing A Place In Time” looks at Canada’s northern landscapes with their vast rolling skies, majestic mountains and massive bodies of water. Joyce depicts nature’s own abstract sculptures, each one with unique beauty, changing and evolving with light.

Her choice of medium is oil. Employing the methods and methodologies of her predecessors,
to create depth and luminosity drawing the viewer into the calm and deafening quiet of what is Canada’s true north, - simplified and pared-down yet with an aura of grandeur and water seemingly stretching to infinity.

The exhibition runs from Jan 11th to April 29th 2016.

Hours: Monday: 1-5, Tuesday to Thursday: 9-5 , Friday: 9-12

Mary Ann Varley is giving a 4 week course titled Painting and Mixed Media during the month of February at the Ottawa School of Art (Shenkman Arts Centre).

This short course explores the exciting possibilities of using a variety of media in creative, personally authentic compositions. Techniques with various materials and acrylic mediums will be explored in greater depth with an emphasis on sound composition. Arteast's hard-copy, quarterly newsletter—Communiqué—is popular with our members, but did you know that it is also available on our Web site at http://arteastottawa.com/newsletter.php? A notification when a new issue is released is communicated via the weekly Arteast Digest. Posting of the Web version may be viewed in full dazzling colour, at least two weeks before the print version (black and white) is delivered by Canada Post. With rising postal costs, some members have requested that they be removed from the mailing list for the printed copy. Other advantages of going with the online Communiqué are:

- reduces printing and envelope costs;

- makes Arteast more "green";

- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).

Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.

6. Ottawa School of Art Course

Academic Oil Painting; Grisaille

'Grisaille' is a fundamental step between drawing and painting in traditional academic painting. During this course students creat an achromatic (black & white) oil painting using a plaster cast. Simplifying the subject allows students to focus on the rendering of values along with the methods and materials involved in building a 'fat over lean' oil painting. The course is open to all levels of ability. The same instructions will be given to all students but the instructor will recommend extra challenges to the more advanced students on a one-on-one basis. Traditional oil or water soluble oil is acceptable.

AGM ADVANCE NOTICE - 26 JANUARY 2016 - PLEASE MARK THIS IMPORTANT ARTEAST DATE IN YOUR CALENDAR!

Arteast will hold its Annual General Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 26 January 2016, in the 2nd floor Gallery at 255 Centrum Blvd. in Orleans. I urge as many members as possible to attend this important annual meeting, which will include the election of some new Directors to Arteast's Board. A minimum of 20 members are required to be present for the conduct of general business, 30 if that business includes amendments to the by-laws. The agenda will be distributed to all members in early January. The AGM will be followed by the Grow With Art presentation (more details to follow at a later date).

PRESENTATION

"A Painter's Life"/ "La vie d'un peintre"

with / avec David W. Jones

David W. Jones est un peintre canadien du paysage. Depuis 35 ans, il participe à des expositions au Canada, Japon, Italie et États-Unis. On retrouve de ses oeuvres dans diverses collections : collection d'Art national sur la guerre, Ville d'Ottawa, Brian Mulroney, Département des pêcheries et océans, Benny Goodman un grand du jazz. Ami personnel de certaines légendes du jazz, Jones a créé des oeuvres utilisées dans la biographie d'Artie Shaw, CD et LP.

2. Members Announcements

Congratulations to Virginia Dupuis who has recently been accepted as a member of the Kanata Civic Art Gallery. She will be one of four new artists featured in the 2015 New Artists - “Fresh Faces” Exhibition from February 4th to February 28th.

Jessie Parker has a solo show titled “Journey” at Moksha Yoga Orleans, 2442 St Joseph Blvd. The show runs till mid April and is open most days all day. The public is welcome to visit.

The show features 14 photo based works including 9 edition prints in pigmented dyes on canvas and paper, and 5 mixed media using photo elements and acrylics. All involve metaphorical journeys in her life. The interpretation will vary with the viewer’s own personal history.

David Kearn is hosting a set of art workshops at the Rothwell United Church. He would be delighted to welcome some Arteasters.

In 6 workshops, we cover key painting subjects and walk with some incredible Canadian painters. These workshops appeal to a wide range of skill levels: from relative beginners to practiced artists wanting to pursue a new style. Together we will dispel myths and develop sound practices, creativity and expression!
