Arteast Workshop for May 23/24 cancelled
Unfortunately we did not get enough people to register for the workshop (Only 6 of the 14 needed to meet the costs). Regrettably, we have to cancel. I know some were looking forward to the fun weekend. I suggest you could contact Shirley and see if you could join one of her workshops in Westport. www.shirleymancino.com her email is smcgroup@yahoo.com . So sorry, Mary Ann Varley

Communiqué
- reduces printing and envelope costs;
- makes Arteast more "green";
- no more hunting for misplaced issues (Arteast's Web site has the current and all back issues).
Printed copies will be available at our monthly Grow With Art meetings and the Promenade Arteast gallery at the Shenkman Arts Centre. If you prefer to read the newsletter online, please e-mail us at editor@arteastottawa.com to have your name removed from the newsletter mailing list.
- réduire les coûts de l’imprimé et de l’enveloppe;
- Arteast plus ‘vert’;
Blackburn
Hamlet Library in conjunction with Arteast is proud to present an
exhibition
of
encaustic artworks by Marie
Leger.
This solo show is titled Spirit
of the hinterland
and
runs from May 30th to July 25th .
Marie
Leger works in encaustics, which is basically, melted pigmented
beeswax painted on a wood surface then fused using a torch or heat
gun. She manipulates the wax through scraping, re-melting, drawing,
painting and embedding found objects. This combination of painting
and dimensional layering of wax and objects leads to rich textures
and a luminous depth.
Marie
Leger finds the unexpected textures and results of working with
encaustics, keep the painting process exciting and fresh and reveal
an unpredictable beauty to be found in imperfection.
This
is a unique opportunity for the public to enjoy, encourage and
support artists
in
their local community as well as the Blackburn Hamlet Library.
Location:
Blackburn Hamlet branch of the Ottawa Public Library, 199 Glenpark,
Ottawa K1B 5B8
Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 10 - 8:30, Friday: 1:00 - 6:00, Saturday: 10:00-
5:00, Sunday: closed.

Arteast
artist Maureen Rooney Mitchell presents an exhibition of
paintings
at
The Legal Information Centre of Ottawa, Suite 1400, 85 Albert
St, Ottawa.
In
this exhibit Maureen has included something that represents each of
her muses from the whimsy of ‘Too Close’ to the winsomeness of
“Cartoon Watching”. Maureen’s
artwork is not confined to one subject matter, and when
she tackles an artwork it usually fits one of several
moulds: it has personal meaning, or, there is something
whimsical that has tickled her funny bone that she wishes to pursue,
or, there is a subject that just cries out to be explored, and
sometimes, a pretty picture is just a pretty picture !
The
exhibition runs from May 1st to
August 31st .
Hours:
Monday: 1-5, Tuesday to Thursday: 9-5 , Friday: 9-12.
