1. Workshop - Watercolour Seascapes with Ron Hazell, CSPWC, SCA

Ron Hazell, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, is an internationally known artist and workshop instructor. He is also an elected member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) and the Society of Canadian Artists (SCA). His work is in many private and corporate collections, including the Permanent Collection of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Scotiabank Corporate Collection, the Bank of Montreal and the Royal Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle. He is the author of The Artist’s Guide to Painting Water in Watercolor, published in 2015 by North Light Art Books. Ron has been giving watercolour workshops for 41 years.

Date / time – Saturday October 17, 2020, from 10 am to 12 noon

Location – This workshop will be online with Zoom

Cost – Member $30, Non-member $35

Attelier - Paysages marins à l’aquarelle avec Ron Hazell, SCPA, SAC

Natif de Halifax, Nouvelle-Écosse, Ron Hazell offre des ateliers et il est un peintre de renommée internationale.  Il est également un membre élu de La Société canadienne de peintres en aquarelle (SCPA) et de la Société des artistes canadiens (SAC).  Ses œuvres sont représentées dans de nombreuses collections corporatives et privées, dont celles de la collection permanente de la Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, la collection d’œuvres d’art de la Banque Scotia, de la Banque de Montréal ainsi que de la Collection royale de Sa Majesté la Reine au Château de Windsor.  Il est l’auteur du  livre The Artist’s Guide to Painting Water in Watercolor, publié en 2015 par North Light Art Books.  Ron offre, depuis 41 ans, des ateliers d’aquarelle.

Ottawa-based encaustic teacher and artist Christina Lovisa will present a demo on a program she teaches called Two Worlds Collide - an uncommon approach to combining mixed media and encaustic art.

3. Call for Artist  to Demo their work at Baz’Art

11th Annual Winter Arts Market at Shenkman Arts Centre, Orléans
 

• Arteast needs 6 artists to demo their work at the 11th annual Baz’Art winter arts market and exhibition on Saturday November 28, 2020 in front of Promenade Arteast. Shenkman Arts Centre
• Two session available November 28, 2020

                                                11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. 3 artists needed
                                                2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.   3 artists needed
 

• You will need to bring 2 or 3 medium to small artworks to display on your table, a table top easel or paint on the table. Your paint supplies to paint. A drink and snack. All artists must wear a mask. Arrive 15 minutes early to setup.

 

• Other seasonal events (some independent of Baz’Art) will be taking place throughout the Centre during the weekend, bringing together a varied mix of performance, visual art and handcrafted gifts. There is no commission on sales and no cost to the Arteast artist.

2. Call for Artists!

The Arteast website has launched a new page, an Artists' Gallery (replacing the previous members link page) a few weeks ago.

Arteast Ottawa is pleased to offer its members a new opportunity to drive traffic to your artist website, social media account or third party seller platform through the Artists' Gallery on the Arteast website.

You can find the link to this new page on the Arteast website under the “Home” tab. 3. Misc.

Wall Candy Art Expo is in its third year, and we are continuing to adapt and find creative ways to offer a space for the creative community within an affordable and accessible model.

Wall Candy Art Expo is offering a unique and creative outdoor two-day market, open to artists and artisans in the Ottawa area (and beyond). It is being held as an outdoor market at Wesley Clover Parks (which is easily accessible from Highway 417, off Moodie Drive), and is taking place over the thanksgiving weekend (October 10th and 11th from 11am - 4pm). Arteast Digest: Celebration of Otto Graser's Life

In April, Arteast announced the death of Otto Graser, a valued and respected member of our organization for many years https://arteastottawa.com/in-memoriam/

His widow, Gail, would like to invite Arteast members to a celebration of Otto's life. Her invitation follows:

"I know many of you are too far away so this is just fyi. For those of you close enough to drop in for a glass and a nibble, Orange Gallery is sticking with all the COVID protocols as of today but if there are changes, we will postpone until Spring 2021. Otto didn't want a funeral but did say he would like a party and under present circumstances, this is the best we can do!" 

 2. Grow with Art Update

This summer has been busy for the Grow with Art team and we have an exciting fall planned for Arteast members. While all activities will remain online, this means they are easily accessible via Zoom and we are able to have presenters and workshops that were not possible in the past.

Our speaker series returns in September. First up is Christina Lovisa, a local encaustic artist, who will do a presentation and demo on September 22. While we have invited Christina to present to Arteast in the past, the fumes from encaustic art made this undoable in our usual meeting room. Now is the perfect opportunity. At this meeting we will also introduce a new segment in our Grow with Art  meetings where an Arteast member will do a brief show and tell on one of their recent pieces, inviting  comments. Online registration for the September 22 meeting begins September 7.

Our October speaker will be BC based artist, Brian Buckrell. He will be speaking about his approach to planning and starting an acrylic landscape. Brian will demonstrate software he uses to enhance his reference image. Later in the fall, Arteast will be hosting a three-day workshop with Brian where he will look at perspective for landscape painters. This workshop will take place in late November.

For the watercolourists, the Grow with Art team has also organized a watercolour workshop with Ronald Hazell. This will be a two-hour workshop taking place on Saturday, October 17 looking at seascapes.

Grandir avec l’Art

Notre équipe de Grandir avec l’Art fut occupée durant l’été. L’automne s’apprête donc à être très intéressante pour les membres de Arteast. Oui, tous les activités demeurent en lignes et facilement accessible via Zoom. En plus, l’aspect virtuel nous permet à offrir des présentateurs et des ateliers qui, dans le passé, n’étaient pas possibles.

Notre série de présentation recommence en septembre. En premier, nous recevons Christina Lovisa, une artiste locale en encaustique. Ça présentation et ses démos auront lieu le 22 septembre. Bien qu’elle fût invitée auparavant, une telle présentation n’était pas possible dans une salle, à cause des odeurs et la fumée venant de la procédure encaustique. Nous prenons donc l’occasion pour le faire maintenant. En plus, nous commencerons un nouveau segment dans Grandir avec l’Art. Les membres participants pourront discuter et montrer un travail récent et pourrons accepter des commentaires. L’inscription en ligne pour la session du 22 septembre débute le 7 septembre.

En octobre, nous recevrons Brian Buckrell, un artiste de la Colombie Britannique. Il nous parlera de son approche en planification d’un paysage en acrylique. Il présentera aussi, un logiciel qu’il se sert pour rehausser ces images de référence. Aussi à noter, plus tard durant l’automne(novembre), Brian  offrira un atelier sur trois jours touchant sur la perspective pour les peintres de paysages.

Pour les aquarellistes, l’équipe de Grandir avec l’Art vous organise un atelier en aquarelle avec Ronald Hazell. L’atelier sera de deux heures et aura lieu samedi le 17 octobre. Le sujet sera le paysage marin.

3. Misc.  Need frames?

Anne Pallascio, the widow of the late Royal Galipeau who was the MP for Orleans, has about two dozen frames of various sizes, many that are quite large, to donate.  Most of these frames are metal and glass. If interested, please contact her directly at pall72@gmail.com or 613-746-1800.
